Today (May 5, 2025) marks the first day of my in-person practicum! Its unpaid unfortunately but the experience is priceless (copium)
Somehow I survived the 0630 clock-in time and arrived early; I’m hoping I can keep this streak up for the rest of my shifts!
During my orientation of the facility I was assigned in, I came across a very odd sight. When we were walking on the 2nd floor walkway I saw a group of ladies having brunch on the main floor. As we went down and walked past the same ladies, they were all suddenly wearing red hats! It was my first time seeing ladies from the red hat society but I was more concerned on where they whipped those hats from in the first place and if they were always wearing those hats when we first came across them. I tried asking my classmates if they noticed as well but they seemed preoccupied with catching up to the instructor who was walking very briskly!
I can’t disclose much due to patient confidentiality but overall my first day went really well! My legs aren’t sore thanks to the 15-20mmhg compression stockings from sockwell™ that worked wonderfully— miraculously the calf pain I’ve been experiencing for a week due to walking up and down a 14-step staircase for 15 minutes straight consecutively went away by the time practicum rolled around! I’m so lucky!
I’m a bit sad my current preceptor is only with me for 2 days, she has been a delight to work with along with the other CNA working with us, I can only hope I can stop by occasionally and say hi when I switch units on Wednesday, the two have been an amazing help in showing me the flow of how things work.
I don’t have any pictures to share except for a celebratory photo of kurimanju on his birthday.
the beer is non-alcoholic but I threw it away after a sip because it tasted like ass. Sorry manju, my KHAAAA was of disgust, I have failed you on your special day.
I washed it out with a leftover cupcake I made for a class potlock. Unfortunately I got mogged hard by another classmate who brought a pan cheesecake which I begrudgingly admit tasted really good. I brought 2 desserts, ensaymada (filipino cheese bread) and cupcakes. The cupcakes were favoured more, but the ensaymada was left pretty much untouched save for a single piece taken by my teacher. Bless her heart, she even brought in vegetable pizza for me to eat when everyone brought dishes that contained meat for the potluck. I still had some cupcakes leftover so I decided to give them to the employees of my practicum facility during orientation. I came across the empty container when I stopped by the staff room today, it seems like they enjoyed it ^_^
Here’s to hopping my 2nd day of practicum turns out well!
